What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is at its core, a collaborative process between two individuals grounded in a constructive relationship where the patient feels understood, accepted, appreciated, and free of negative judgment. It’s essentially about the relationship. The match or fit between therapist and patient is central to the outcome of therapy. Within this relationship, the patient is encouraged to explore and disclose distressing issues – however they might initially frame them. The therapeutic contract or agreement - the choice of terms depends upon how formally or implicitly the agreement between the two is stated - acknowledges that the patient is struggling with life’s challenges and they are in need of professional assistance. They have come to the therapist with that understanding.

What is relational psychoanalysis?

Relational psychoanalysis is an interpersonal, collaborative approach that views the therapeutic relationship itself as the primary vehicle for change. Rooted in the belief that we are shaped by our connections with others—past and present—this framework emphasizes how early relational patterns unconsciously repeat in current relationships, including the one between therapist and patient. In practice, therapist and patient work together to build a safe, trusting relationship where hidden aspects of inner life—those that are painful, shameful, or resisted—can gradually emerge and be understood. Rather than the therapist serving as a detached interpreter, the focus is on what unfolds between us: the here-and-now dynamics, the repetitions, the moments of disconnection and repair. Relational psychoanalysis draws on contemporary research in child development, neurobiology, and culture, and places particular value on sociocultural context. It is not a linear, symptom-focused treatment but an evolving, exploratory process. Change happens over time—not through managing symptoms alone, but through the lived experience of being seen, known, and met in a new way. At its heart, relational psychoanalysis asks: What patterns are you living out, perhaps unknowingly? Where did they come from? And what becomes possible when they are met differently—here, with me?

What can I expect during the therapeutic process?

Embarking on a therapeutic journey with me means delving into the depths of your experiences, whether as an individual or as a couple, to gain a profound understanding of how they have shaped your sense of self and your relationships. Our sessions will be a space for open exploration, where we unravel the root causes of your challenges and discover new pathways forward. Our work together is built on weekly sessions. The consistency is essential — it creates a reliable container where trust can develop, pattens can emerge, and deep exploration becomes possible. Scholarship has consistently shown that regular, uninterrupted sessions are associated with stronger treatment outcomes. Depth unfolds not in isolated moments, but in the steady rhythm of showing up, again and together. Patients who engage this way tend to benefit most, as it allows us to develop trust, explore complexity, and work with depth over time. In our work together, you can expect us to: • Uncover repetitive relational patterns – the ones that may keep you stuck, whether within yourself or between you and your partner • Explore shifting from rigidity toward psychological flexibility – expanding your capacity to respond, rather than react • Delve into the landscape of feelings – how you experience, express, and regulate emotion, both internally and in relationship • Examine the dynamics that unfold in the therapeutic relationship itself – using what happens between us as a window into your inner and interpersonal world • Explore past and present relationships – tracing how early experiences continue to shape your current ways of loving, trusting, and connecting Whether in individual or couples therapy, the work is not linear. Change unfolds over time—through deepened understanding, lived experience in the sessions, and the gradual transformation of old patterns into new possibilities. Addition for couples: In couples therapy, we will also attend to the space between you—exploring the repetitive cycles, ruptures, and longings that shape your relational life. Together, we'll work toward greater understanding, connection, and the capacity to meet one another differently.

What is the neuropsychological assessment process?

I offer neuropsychological assessments that are collaborative, identity affirming, and tailored to your unique questions and concerns. Whether you are seeking clarity, access to accommodations, or a deeper understanding of yourself, my goal is to provide answers that are meaningful, not just labels. The assessment process typically involves of four appointments: • A complimentary 15-minute initial consultation • A diagnostic intake appointment • One or more testing appointments • A feedback appointment Assessments may be conducted via telehealth, in person, or a combination of both, depending on your needs and circumstances. Why seek an assessment? Patients often seek assessment for many reasons: to better understand their neurotype, to access academic or workplace accommodations, to clarify a diagnosis, or simply to know themselves more fully. I have particular expertise working with late-identified and underrepresented communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and gender-expansive individuals. What the process looks like: 1. Initial Consultation (15 minutes, complimentary) We connect briefly by phone or telehealth to discuss your concerns, answer initial questions, and determine whether an assessment is the right next step. 2. Intake appointment (60-90 minutes) We meet, typically via telehealth, to explore your history, current concerns, and goals in depth. You are welcome to bring someone close to attend if you wish. This conversation shapes the assessment plan and ensures it is tailored for you. 3. Testing appointment (2-4 hours) Testing is highly individualized and may include interviews, questionnaires, and structured tasks. Appointments can be shorter in length, if needed. You will be asked to simply do your best and respond honestly, there's no need to prepare. You are welcome to dress comfortably, bring snacks if you like and fidgets, if you like. 4. Feedback appointment (50 minutes) About two weeks after testing is complete, we meet to review your results, any diagnoses, and individualized recommendations. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss next steps. Your written report will be sent to you electronically within 24 hours.

What are your rates?

• Consultation: Complementary • Individual & couples psychotherapy, clinical supervision, and professional consultation services: The rate will be discussed during your initial free consultation. • After the initial intake testing appointment, a Good Faith Estimate will be provided to you and does not include any unexpected costs that may arise during the assessment process as costs may vary based on your individual needs.
